You have cleared the NIFT written exam and the Situation Test — congratulations! But for certain programmes like MFM, MFTech, and MDes, there is one more stage: the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). This round determines whether you get your dream college and programme at NIFT.
Which NIFT Programmes Have GD/PI?
- MFM (Master of Fashion Management)
- MFTech (Master of Fashion Technology)
- MDes (Master of Design)
UG B.Des students do not have a GD/PI — for them the process ends at the Situation Test.
NIFT Group Discussion Format
The GD typically involves 8–12 students discussing a topic for 15–20 minutes. Topics are usually related to:
- Fashion industry trends and sustainability
- Indian textile and craft traditions
- Design thinking and innovation
- Current affairs related to fashion and design
- Business and management scenarios (especially for MFM)
How to Excel in NIFT GD
Start strong but don’t interrupt: If you can open the discussion with a clear point, it creates a good first impression. But never cut others off.
Speak with examples: Back every opinion with a real-world example from the fashion or design industry.
Show leadership: Try to summarise the discussion at the end if given the chance.
Stay calm and confident: Panellists observe your body language just as much as your content.

NIFT expects students to have a sense of aesthetics. Dress smartly and creatively — not necessarily in formal corporate attire, but in a way that reflects your personal style and design sensibility. Avoid being too casual or too overdressed.
